Hints & Tips

1. Using a Wired to Wireless Android Auto Adapter

Unlike in the US market, UK Corvettes do not come with Wireless Carplay as standard. I found a great little adapter on eBay (no longer available, but there are similar devices) that plugs into a USB port in the central console, is set-up via your phone's Wi-Fi, then connects to the car via Bluetooth providing Android Auto wirelessly.

As soon as connected it worked well to provide navigation, music and other apps, such as WhatsApp, but when I tried to use it for 'phone calls, I found it reporting "no Bluetooth connection" and the calls were not connected to the car's audio. Eventually, I found that enabling Bluetooth Tethering on the 'phone resolved this problem, and now all 'phone features work wirelessly.

2. Routine Engine Oil & Filter Change

Access to unscrew the oil filter is quite limited without removing the undertray, which is otherwise unnecessary if only an engine oil service is being performed. In the UK, Halfords "Advanced Adjustable Oil Filter Remover" (similar products are available elsewhere) is extremely effective, and it comes with a lifetime guarantee.

3. Battery & Electrical "Gremlins"

Like all modern cars the C8 has multiple systems that may be always on or intermittently self-check and drawing current. If the car is going to be parked for more than a few days it's wise to use a battery trickle charger/ conditioner, such as the CTEK Model 1075 (connected by the outlet in the frunk).

If the voltage drops, which, as I've experienced, could also be caused by a loose battery connection, the Driver Information Centre will throw-up all sorts of misleading fault messages, such as "Service Transmission", so always first check the battery voltage.

4. Replacement "Mud Guards".

The only "modification" that I've felt necessary to make to my car was to replace the original equipment mud-flaps that fit flush with the wheel arches. These allow stones and debris to easily fly from the wheels to hit the underside/ sills.

There are many (mostly Chinese) suppliers of inexpensive replacements that extend a little beyond the wheel arch and offer increased protection. Mine look like carbon flash and,I think, also improve the look.
